Biography & Experience

Mr. Hazem Sami Abbas graduated from the Faculty of Commerce, Ain Shams University, with a major in Accounting in 2000. He began his professional career in the commercial banking sector, where he gained six years of practical experience before pursuing a career in law and obtaining his Bachelor of Law (LL.B.) from Cairo University.

At the outset of his legal career, Mr. Abbas worked alongside distinguished law professors and senior legal advisors from across the Arab world on the establishment of the Arab Federation for Electronic Arbitration (the first electronic arbitration federation in the Arab world). He subsequently joined the legal department of a leading regional oil and gas group while completing his legal education, laying the foundation for a distinguished career in the energy sector.

With more than 12 years of dedicated experience in the international oil and gas industry, Mr. Abbas has held several senior legal leadership positions, including Executive Legal Manager at Drexel Oilfield Equipment and Group Deputy General Counsel & Senior Legal Officer at Sahara Petroleum Group. Throughout his career, he has advised multinational corporations and regional enterprises on complex commercial transactions, strategic projects, and high-value contractual matters.

In addition to leading in-house legal departments, Mr. Abbas regularly serves as Of Counsel and Legal Expert to leading law firms across Egypt, the MENA region, and the GCC. His practice encompasses corporate structuring for multinational groups, cross-border transactions, mergers and acquisitions, legal due diligence, corporate governance, regulatory compliance, and the preparation of legal opinions under multiple legal systems.

Mr. Abbas has also represented clients as counsel in a number of high-value arbitration proceedings before the Cairo Regional Centre for International Commercial Arbitration (CRCICA), with particular emphasis on complex oil and gas disputes. His arbitration experience includes disputes arising from oil exploration projects, concession agreements, joint operating agreements, engineering and procurement contracts, drilling and petroleum services agreements, and other high-value commercial disputes. He provides strategic legal advice throughout all stages of arbitration, from pre-dispute risk assessment and claims management to advocacy and enforcement, helping clients protect their commercial interests in complex cross-border matters.
